At Reliable Spine, we specialise in the non-surgical management of scoliosis, spinal disc injuries and posture correction. Our chiropractors are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and have undertaken advanced training in scoliosis management, scoliosis bracing and scoliosis exercise rehabilitation.
What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a three-dimensional torsional deformity of the spine, resulting in abnormal side curvatures when viewed from the back. These curvatures can cause the shoulders to appear uneven, a prominent shoulder blade on one side, a rib-hump when bending forward, and an uneven waistline. Scoliosis is a progressive condition: if left untreated or inappropriately managed it can worsen over time, so early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are important for good long-term outcomes.
Scoliosis becomes more common with age. Around 3 to 5% of children under 16 are affected, rising to roughly 9% of over-40s and more than 30% of over-60s.
How we help
One size does not fit all. Our clinicians assess each case individually and recommend the most appropriate option, from scoliosis-specific exercises to bracing. We offer a range of bracing to suit individual needs:
- SpineCor — a dynamic soft brace for children and adults that keeps the body moving while managing the spinal position. Worn discreetly under clothing, it allows normal daily and sporting activity.
- CMP — a rigid, asymmetrical over-correcting brace, typically for growing children with curves from around 25 degrees.
- TechnoSpine TLSO — developed to reduce postural imbalance and pain, facilitating dynamic postural improvement into adulthood, and suitable for degenerative or adult-onset scoliosis.
Alongside bracing, we provide the Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis (SEAS), a tailored programme of active, isometric and reflexive exercises designed around each patient’s unique curve type, plus specific muscle strengthening and stretching for scoliosis.
